Celebrating 175 years

As part of the celebrations for 175 years at the heart of Birmingham life, Birmingham City University asked us to design timelines for Arts, Design and Media, Buisness, Law and Social Sciences, Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment and Health, Education and Life Sciences departments depicting key events over the years. The timeline included infographics and we applied the repeated pattern from their ‘Celebrating 175 years’ branding. The four timelines have been printed within brochures and as large format exhibition stands.

Fresh and youthful

We were recently asked to refresh the design of BCU’s STEM brochure – a publication with the objective of inspiring secondary school students to consider GCSE options that lead onto studying Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics at university.

The redesign needed to have a tactile and youthful feel to encourage and excite pupils to pick up the brochure and absorb the information. Vibrant photography combined with the introduction of a script font allowed us to achieve a fresh look whilst remaining true to the vision of the university’s brand.

What’s on

It’s an exciting time for our client Birmingham Conservatoire – or should we say Royal Birmingham Conservatoire – a new building, a new title and with it a new look for their ‘What’s on’ guides.

Creative Triangle were appointed to refresh and modernise their quarterly event information guide ready for the soft launch of the new, purpose built performing arts institution. Our design concepts needed to reflect the perfect fusion of music and acting and of traditional and contemporary – they needed to be creative, inspiring and really promote the Conservatoire as a forward thinking and extraordinary place to be.
‘The results were fantastic and the new look and feel reflected the quality, ambition and excitement of the new venues’
Andy Roberts, Marketing and Audience Development Officer

Find your direction

BCU’s Fashion and Textile School required a suite of brochures to promote their world-class courses.

Inspired by fashion look books and magazines, CT developed a contemporary, edgy approach to the design while still adhering to the University’s corporate and sub-brand guidelines.

We created abstract page layouts by highlighting details of garments and deconstructing imagery – playing with block colour, texture and pattern. Cut up typography added interest and direction to the pages. Printed on uncoated stock to add to their tactile nature.

Don’t miss out

Working with Birmingham City University we developed a social media campaign to encourage their students to use their uni email. We developed humorous, bold copy lines paired with quirky imagery to grab the target audience’s attention and really sell the potential benefits of checking their emails so they don’t miss out.

Birmingham Conservatoire have launched their Autumn concerts and events with a complementary set of leaflets and diary. Always a pleasure to work with, the team supply the information and photographs for our designers to create the publications. There really is something for everyone!

Decomposing music

We’ve just finished working on the marketing materials for Birmingham Conservatoire’s Frontiers Festival of Contemporary Music. For the second year running we were asked to design a 20 page programme, A5 flyer and pull up banner.

This year the theme was ‘decomposing music’ and the design included visuals of knock-downed buildings. A nod to the Adrian Boult Hall’s imminent demolition and the new state-of-the-art Conservatoire building that is under construction.

We also supplied elements to be used by the client to create a consistent look and feel across their website and social media. Follow the festival on twitter @frontiersplus or find them on facebook/frontiersplus.

Trends exhibition

Last month Birmingham City University’s textile students exhibited their ‘trends’ project work at the May Design Series at the ExCel in London. Creative Triangle were tasked with creating the supporting materials for the exhibition including a 12pp brochure, certificates for students, voting cards and exhibition panels.

The students created two room sets within the BCU exhibition stand influenced by two trends – Tropic & Brink – all marketing collateral we created showcased the two trends by creating a platform to incorporate images of the students’ work within the design.

Events guide

Birmingham Conservatoire, part of Birmingham City University, educates and trains musicians to the highest of professional standards. Be it solo performance or orchestra, jazz or classical, the wide variety of creative talent emanating from the Conservatoire really had us inspired.

We were tasked with reinvigorating the autumn concert and events diary. The sixty page diary contained listings for over 100 recitals, events and masterclasses. Utmost importance was placed on designing a flexible layout that gave prominence to the key details. Click here to view the full diary and find out more.
