The University of Lincoln’s Higher Education Convention is an annual event, attracting more than 3,000 school pupils from across the county of Lincolnshire who are looking to get a glimpse of what university life is like and what courses are on offer at many of the University’s across the UK. With this in mind, the University wanted to create a piece of collateral that would catch the eye of the students, providing them with valuable advice about what was happening on the day and the wide range of exhibitors attending the event.
Using the theme of direction, we developed an 8pp square booklet which was extremely tactile, thanks to the hard work of our design team who created a really clever textured appearance. By using creative which incorporated arrows we suggested that the students would ‘find their direction’ for higher education at the event. We also tied in the arrow theme at the event to control the flow of visitors.

Late last year we were asked to produce new collateral and signage for the baggage handling staff at London Gatwick Airport. We came up with a really clean and contemporary new brand called ‘Baggage Smart’ and created an A5 booklet that contained information about the dangers in and around the baggage hall. To avoid bombarding staff with huge amounts of technical information we took time to create simple illustrations which were re-drawn from photographs. These were then used throughout the booklet to break up the copy.
The booklet was a real hit with staff at the Airport, so much so that we were asked to create various other materials for other operational departments. Upon completion of official training the appropriate booklet is given to staff depending upon their role.

The second in the ‘Smart’ suite of materials, the ‘Trolley Smart’ handbook was required to provide valuable safety information to staff who handle the multi-million pound state of the art trolleys at London Gatwick Airport.
The evolution of the ‘Trolley Smart’ brand from ‘Baggage Smart’ worked well together throughout the document and introduced trolley handlers to functional guidance on the rights and wrongs of trolley handling.
Accessibility was key, so, in addition to the handbook, we created innovative Trolley Smart cards which contained the information need most by employees. These are now carried by all trolley handlers for quick reference.
The final piece of the ‘Smart’ puzzle is ‘Electric Vehicle Smart’. A handbook that gives guidance on driving Electric Vehicles used for passengers with reduced mobility being transported safely around busy terminals. Having used the London Gatwick Airport character colours for the previous two publications, it was important that the theme continued, while also working as a standalone piece. Through the use of striking graphics and a clear structure, this booklet is smart, simple and readable.

When BSS Industrial asked us to create an A5 250pp brochure in just three months we have to admit we were slightly nervous! But, never one to say no to a challenge, we gave it our all and delivered the fantastic Introduction to Drainage brochure on time and within budget.
Working in tandem with the BSS Industrial marketing department we produced a clean and concise brochure that separates over 12,000 products into user-friendly product categories. These are colour referenced into bite sized sections including above and under ground products as well as specialist equipment such as tools, rainwater harvesting and personal protective equipment. The brochure’s spiral-binding makes for a more practical document used every day by over 400 BSS salespeople.
Since the publication has been produced the number of BSS Drainage branches has more than trebled in size across the UK and our brochure helps to sell those 12,000+ products. We think it’s a really fantastic piece of literature, but don’t just take our word for it. This is what the internal sales department had to say about it:

Building on the massive success of the PTS Bathrooms publication last year, we have just completed the design for a new bathrooms brochure for Plumbing Trade Supplies (PTS), the domestic division of The BSS Group plc. The 108pp brochure showcases the latest range of bathrooms and accessories available across all 300+ PTS UK branches.
Following the same contemporary design as last year, Bathrooms is aimed at the end user rather than trade customers that allows us to push the boat out with the creative, resulting in a really fresh, contemporary brochure that effectively positions PTS as one of the leading distributors of plumbing, heating and sanitaryware in the UK.
As well as showcasing some of the country’s best bathrooms suites and wet rooms, this publication also allowed our studio team to brush up on their technical illustration by creating specifications for all products contained in the brochure.
